Why Firestop

Firestops are crucial in the life safety of any building. Properly installed and maintained systems also prevent the passage of smoke through the building. This allows the occupants crucial time to allow fire safety crews to arrive if they are unable to exit the building.

Proper firestops consist of fire-rated assemblies which provide compartmentalization for commercial buildings. When these barriers are penetrated, an Underwriters Laboratory-approved firestop system is required to maintain the hourly rating of the barrier. These penetrations could include drain pipes, metal conduit, phone lines, etc.
